My work ethic

I believe in quality and attention to detail in what I do. Commercially, economically, there is often a need to find the quickest way to a visual impact, an illusion of finished-ness. But all gardening activity is cyclical, with greater or lesser time spans involved. In some cases modern mechanical equipment, whilst covering ground much more quickly, does not aid the desired outcome. Mowers that mulch grass encourage rougher, more dominant grass species, for instance, and powered hedge cutters do not give either the finish or the re-growth potential of the skilled worker using secateurs, loppers or even hand shears.

Sometimes customers relate payment to a measured volume of productivity, whereas from the gardener’s viewpoint, the knowledge that the client’s long-term interests have been better served by the applied experience and craft technique is infinitely more satisfying.
